Roncesvalles is a beautiful green neighbourhood, with friendly people and a close tie to enviromental issues.

I live on Grenadier, close to the circle connecting my street to Lynd and Parkway. Every day that I walk by the circle, I see junk piling up (beer bottles, pop cans, even someone's purse!).

I have taken to cleaning this circle since no one else is.

We not only live in Roncesvalles, we ARE Roncesvalles.

Please respect our environment: DO NOT LITTER. Please share this important environmental message with everyone, especially your children.

See you sometime at the circle with my garbage bag. :)

I was walking to Loblaws the other day and saw an elderly Polish woman get out of her car and throw two handfuls of trash out the door and onto the ground. I was so disgusted by this I said to her "Excuse me, but you can't litter like that". She shouted back at me, first in Polish (and I didn't understand what she was saying) and then she said in English "Someone will come and clean it up". Can you imagine? It's not just young kids who are dropping candy wrappers and pop cans here, it's senior citizens from the Roncesvalles community who don't seem to give a damn.

There were complaints to the city and the BIA, and the circle seems much cleaner and better kept now. We have to be persistent, and you were right to call out that dirty grandma. :(

I am amazed daily at the clash of the Roncy cultures. All the young professionals who are buying houses over asking in our hood seem to be at odds with many of the old timers who frankly don't seem to care about the quality of the houses or hood. Nevertheless, the days of crack houses on tree lined streets and fights between drunks spilling out onto Roncy are (hopefully?) a thing of the past.

Gee, grenadier66, we sure are happy you've moved into the 'hood and showed us all how to care of the place. I've lived in this area for 20 years and I have never known of a crack house, maybe you know something I don't.

Why did you move to a neighborhood with crack houses and street fights? It makes me laugh that you think that you have had something to do with this area being a nice place to live.

I have a suggestion: why don't you take the money your mommy and daddy gave you for a down payment and buy a house in Mississauga? The sidewalks are huge, you could buy an even bigger stroller to walk your little miracles around in.

Loopy, don't be a kiss***. You might want to take advantage of spellcheck.

Roncees.... hmmm lets see: you attack me, Looppy, and Doug1. Maybe you are having a bad day? LOL

So much for being positive. Perhaps it is time for you to move to a neighbourhood with people more cynical like you: your beloved Mississauga for example!

Anyway, I encourage anyone reading this not to be dissuaded by some bad apples. Keep our hood clean, set a good example to our children, and be nice to your neighbours!

RONCEES: you sound like a total A-hole. I find a few things you say very, very offensive. First you insult the honest, hard working home owners of Roncy who pay their mortgage every month. My parents never gave me one red cent to put down on my new house, so piss off. Second, I cannot imagine anyone moving to this hood and hating children like you do. "...little miracles" ??? You have mega issues.

You should find somewhere else to live, or at least not post such offensive forum comments. We should be happy to have people like the first 3 posters who actually care about their hood unlike you who just spread venom.

Well grenadier66, i think you missed the point of my message, so i'll explain it to you. Roncesvalles has always been a beautiful area, with hard working, honest people. I know, i've lived here for 20 years. The fact that you clean the circle is great, the statement you made that the 'hood used to be full of crackhouses on tree lined streets and it was a regular occurance to see drunks fighting on the street is inaccurate, and to anyone that has lived here, -very offensive. The reason a lot of "old timers" seem to have some resentment towards the "young profeesionals" is that the "young professionals" seem to think that they moved into this area and saved it. There was nothing to save it from. And just because you moved to Roncesvalled doesn't "make" you Roncesvalles. That takes some time and committment. You may be well on your way to "being" Roncesvalles, but there are plenty of newbies that need to be here alot longer and do more than give a panhandler a loonie to "Be" Roncesvalles.

Pearsonlady, you are the only person calling people A-holes and telling people to pss-off. Your' parents may not have given you the money for the down-payment but i know plenty who did, and it's not only the "young professionals" that pay mortgage payments every month. I know you are very proud of that and you sound even a bit of self-rightous about it; but i assure you, you are not the first to pay their mortgage payments.
Second of all, I don't hate children, I just find a lot of their parents annoying when I have to dodge SUV size baby strollers everytime I go on the street.
It's interesting that you think I should move away because you don't like my comments. I think people who insult the neighberhood by saying that it was filled with crackhouses, the "old Polish" people don't care about the area and people that call others A-holes are the people spreading venom.

Aaaanyway, at least someone is posting on this forum now. Keep it up. (-if you can pull yourself away from Oprah that is...sorry i couldn't help it.)

It's amazing how many people find Roncesvalles to be one of the greatest neighbourhoods to call home. Roncesvalles is in fact all about the people both young and old. I beleive it does'nt matter if you've been living here for 30 years or for 30 minutes or if you own your home or if you rent. The village has enough space and freedom to welcome buisness owners, children, young professionals, and the retired. Roncesvalles is both unique and charming, owning a small portion of the entire village does not make you king/queen. People is what makes a neighbourhood not the amount of time spent in it.
